Tom Cruise soars majestically as action man expertly manoeuvres paraglider in field

Ever the amazing stuntman, Tom Cruise was seen hastily manoeuvring a paraglider in a field this week.

The action hero has often done his own stunts, even if it breaks some bones, so it might come as no surprise he got to grips with the daredevil sport.

Wearing all the right protective gear, if Tom hadn’t flashed that famous grin of his we might not know it’s him in that field in the French Alps.

In photos the 57-year-old was seen up, up and away in the air, as he toggled with the handles.

He was flanked by helpers and right-hand men with the ropes of the paraglider trailing behind him and the sail inflated perfectly.

The father sported sunglasses and a helmet while wearing an all-black outfit not totally dislike his usual onscreen garb.

It’s not immediately known if he was shooting scenes for an upcoming film, but we’ve got both Top Gun: Maverick and Mission Impossible in the works so it could really be a smorgasbord of action he was working on.

Either that or he just loves a spot of weekend paragliding and who’s to shame the guy. You’ve got to get your thrills somehow, right?

Tom looked brilliantly focused on the challenge, as the lack of film crew suggested he may be brushing up on his stunt skills.

While the man didn’t reach the heights of paragliding, with the sails sometimes soaring up to 24,000 feet, that’s not to say he didn’t look like a majestic eagle up there.

The Hollywood starwart is evidently not discouraged from throwing himself into the thick of stunts two years after he broke his ankle on the set of Mission Impossible: Fallout.

Production was halted back in 2017, however it still landed in cinemas to fanfare.

‘I was chasing Henry [Cavill] and was meant to hit the side of the wall and pull myself over but the mistake was my foot hitting the wall,’ Tom explained of his injury while appearing on The Graham Norton Show.

‘I knew instantly my ankle was broken and I really didn’t want to do it again so just got up and carried on with the take.

‘I said, “It’s broken. That’s a wrap. Take me to hospital” and then everyone got on the phone and made their vacation arrangements.’

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Henry, who played August Walker in the sequel, revealed how Cruise’s injury benefitted the flick by allowing them to recuperate from a ‘knackered’ period.

Cavill said: ‘I was there on the day and obviously it’s one of those moments where you’re like, “oh that looked painful”. He finished the shot despite how much pain he was in.

‘I don’t know how many months in it was, but we were all knackered at that stage. So when the break happened, literally, and then the hiatus, we just went, “you know what it’s not a bad time to recoup and we can just rest up a bit, make sure everything’s perfect and come back.”

‘And we did. It was good and worked really in our favour.’

By the looks of his protective gear this week, he’s doing just fine.
