An Irish MP has shared a wild tale claiming Tom Cruise came close to getting his arm broken during a Kerry pub scuffle over a Diet Coke back in 1991.

The actor was in Ireland filming Far And Away in the early 90s when he headed to the watering hole with then-wife Nicole Kidman.

Now Michael Healy-Rae, an Irish independent politician, has claimed the Mission: Impossible star came close to fisticuffs with a local at the Loo Bridge Bar near the town of Kilgarvan who accused him of stealing.

Yes, this celebrity story is about Diet Coke and ice.

The politician spoke about the incident on The Pat Kenny Show on Tuesday, claiming Tom entered the establishment wearing jeans and sunglasses and going unrecognised.

‘There was a man sitting down the end of the counter called Ger the Manny,’ he said this week. ‘He was an elderly man and he had his stick up on the counter and he was sipping away at a little glass of Guinness.’

According to Michael, the bartender (who was called Matt) served Tom and Nicole a glass of Coke before leaving the bar.

He continued: ‘When he was gone, the Yank leaned behind the counter and he had his hand dipped inside the counter.

‘Ger jumped up off his stool, he caught his stick and drew a belt at yer man’s hand trying to hit him across the hand.

‘But he just missed and there was a big bang down on the counter right near the Yank’s hand.’

The politician claimed Tom insisted he was just leaning over the bar to get a bit more ice, but Ger the Manny disputed the claim and shouted: ‘You b*stard, you were trying to steal Matt’s fags.’

He added that Tom persisted in his innocence before he and Nicole ‘sipped away at their Diet Coke and left.’

Michael added: ‘If Ger had been an inch or two longer he could have broke [his] arm.’

It’s quite the tale. While Tom is a trooper when it comes to broken bones (the man has shattered an ankle mid stunt and kept on running in a scene) the likes of Ger the Manny sound pretty imposing to us.
