Today’s back pages: Lampard’s blue Monday at Chelsea and England take a kicking

Frank back at the Bridge

After being given permission to talk to Chelsea yesterday Frank Lampard will become the new manager at Stamford Bridge.

Ex-Chelsea player Lampard, who is currently boss of Derby County, has reportedly signed a £5.5m-a-season three-year deal to replace Maurizio Sarri and his move will be confirmed in the next 48 hours.

The Daily Star reports that it will be a “blue Monday” when Lampard begins work at Chelsea next week while The Sun says he will be at the club’s training complex to start the groundwork ahead of the new season.

England in deep trouble

The Daily Telegraph reports that England’s Cricket World Cup hopes are in the balance after “taking a kicking” against Australia yesterday.

Tournament hosts England lost by 64 runs at Lord’s and The Times says the defeat leaves them “on the brink” in fourth place in the World Cup standings.

It was a “bat out of hell”, says the Daily Express, but despite the thrashing England star Ben Stokes has urged his team-mates to stick to their big-hitting style.
