Today’s back pages: Johanna Konta hits new heights and Raheem Sterling eyes prize

‘Unbeatable’ Konta

British No.1 Johanna Konta is through to the semi-finals of the French Open tennis grand slam after beating seventh seed Sloane Stephens 6-1, 6-4.

The 26th seed destroyed last year’s runner-up in an “unbeatable” performance that left seven-time winner Chris Evert “speechless”, the Daily Express reports.

Konta has hit “new heights”, says The Times, as Evert continued her praise for the 28-year-old.

The American 18-time grand slam winner said: “Jo Konta, I take my hat off to you. She would have been beaten anybody the way she played.”

As the first British women to reach the Roland-Garros last four since 1983, Konta is now eyeing her first major victory, The Guardian reports.

She will play in the French Open semi-final against Czech 19-year-old Marketa Vondrousova on Thursday.

‘Beach for the stars’

The Daily Mirror reports that England forward Raheem Sterling has told his team-mates he is “not sacrificing his holidays to go home empty-handed”.

England face Holland on Thursday in the Uefa Nations League semi-final and Manchester City star Sterling vows to “bring on the glory”, says The Sun.
