Bob Willis: 1949-2019
English cricket has paid tribute to former captain Bob Willis, who has died at the age of 70.
The Daily Telegraph’s back page features a photo of Willis after “the Headingley hero” destroyed Australia with bowling figures of 8-43 in the famous 1981 third Ashes Test.
Writing in the Daily Mail, Nassar Hussain, another ex-England skipper, called Willis “a great cricketer and an even better bloke”.
After taking 325 wickets in 90 Tests from 1971 to 1984, Willis became a pundit and worked for the BBC and Sky Sports.
The Daily Mirror describes him as a “giant of our game” while Metro says he was a “true England legend”.

United wreck Mourinho’s return
Jose Mourinho made his return to Old Trafford last night but his Tottenham side were beaten 2-1 by former club Manchester United.
It was “Rashford 2 Special 1”, says the Daily Mirror, as Marcus Rashford scored a double for United in the Premier League clash. The Red Devils are now up to sixth in the table.
Silva is in the chop zone
In the Merseyside derby at Anfield Liverpool thrashed rivals Everton 5-2 to retain their eight-point lead at the top of the Premier League.
The derby defeat leaves Everton manager Marco Silva in the “chop zone”, says the Daily Mirror, with the Toffees now sitting inside the relegation spots.
BBC reports that Silva’s future is expected to be decided today and former Everton boss David Moyes is being considered as an interim replacement.
