Coming for Cavani
The Daily Mirror and Independent report that Chelsea and Manchester United are tailing Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani.
United were linked to the Uruguay ace yesterday but Blues boss Frank Lampard has also expressed an interest in the 32-year-old, who according to the Mirror “has handed in an official transfer request at PSG”.
Chelsea are permitted to make January signings after their Fifa transfer ban was lifted by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), and Lampard has his eye on Cavani.
“He’s a great player,” said Lampard. “I’m not absolutely aware of what the situation is, so we’ll see.”

Awesome England
The Times and the Daily Express both give prominence to England’s emphatic win in the third match of the four-Test series against South Africa.
The tourists won by an innings and 53 runs in Port Elizabeth, and the Express hails the contribution of England’s man-of-the-match.
“Ollie’s not ton yet” is the Express headline, above a photo of Ollie Pope, who scored a maiden Test century and took six catches in a brilliant performance.
Writing in The Times, Michael Atherton also praises the captaincy of Joe Root and says he looks “revitalised” after coming in for some criticism in last summer’s Ashes series.
Thank Evans
The victory of British No.1 Dan Evans at the Australian Open features on the back pages of both Metro and the Daily Express with the latter claiming he showed his “stomach for the fight” in defeating American Mackenzie McDonald.
Evans, playing his first grand slam as a seed, dropped the first two sets 3-6, 4-6 but displayed true grit to win the next three 6-1, 6-2, 6-3. Evans’s reward is a second-round clash against Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka tomorrow.
“I just hung in, I thought my level was there somewhere,” said the 30th seed. “I changed my game a little bit, started making few more balls and in the end I was pretty strong.”
The news wasn’t so good for Evans’s female counterpart, Johanna Konta, who lost her first round match to Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur. The 12th seed was beaten 6-4, 6-2 by the world No.78 at Melbourne Park.
