Titanfall 2 is best free game on PS Plus for December

The days of either Sony or Microsoft (who just revealed next month’s Games with Gold) going all out with ‘free’ game offerings for their subscription services are long gone, but at least the main games for both tend to be good and next month PlayStation 4 subscribers get the excellent Titanfall 2.

It was first released in 2016 though, so there’s been plenty of opportunities to get it dirt cheap before now. If you haven’t played it before though, it excels in terms of both its online multiplayer and one of the best shooter story campaigns of this generation.

Titanfall 2 was never that big when it was first released, with many criticising publisher EA for its Christmas release date, that everyone but them predicted would see the game being steamrollered by Call Of Duty and EA’s own Battlefield 1.

Since that failure there’s been continued confusion over the prospects of a new sequel, with EA seeming to promise one this year but Respawn making it clear they’re not working on Titanfall 3 at the moment.

The situation will have been complicated by the runaway success of Apex Legends, although Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was by an almost entirely separate team.

Back to PS Plus though, and the other game is… Monster Energy Supercross: The Video Game, which we’ve never played and we’re sure most people have never even heard of.

Which seems typical of most PS Plus offerings nowadays, that aren’t the main game.

Neither game has been officially announced yet but they were accidentally revealed by the Polish PlayStation Store. They should go live next week though, with the last day for Nioh (which is great and you should definitely catch before it goes) and Outlast 2 (which is scary but repetitive) downloads being Tuesday, 3 December.
