Timo Werner's future 'in Jurgen Klopp's hands' as Liverpool eye transfer

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will reportedly be the key figure in deciding the future of RB Leipzig star Timo Werner as speculation continues to link him with a move to the Reds.

The German striker has had a prolific season in the Bundesliga, scoring 21 goals in 23 games, and he has also netted four goals in the Champions League, including in last week’s 1-0 victory against Tottenham .

Werner appears destined to move on in the summer because he has a £50m release clause in his contract, a fee which many elite clubs will no doubt be willing to pay.

And according to Sky Sports much will depend on whether Klopp decides he wants the player and also whether he can convince him he will play on a regular basis.

Werner appears to favour a move to Liverpool , but is worried he will not be able to get in the team ahead of the likes of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.

It remains to be seen whether Klopp believes it is worth splashing out £50m when he already has so many options going forward, and if he does he must also promise Werner he will become a key man in the side.

There is no doubt the player is interested in the move, and he appeared to flirt with the club last week when he said: “There’s one of the best managers in the world with Jurgen Klopp, and he is also German.

If a move to Liverpool does not materialise there will be plenty of other teams interested in Werner, with the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal also linked with a move in the past.
