Follow live coverage as the US Women’s national team return to home soil following their Women’s World Cup victory.

Goals from Megan Rapinoe and Rose Lavelle saw the 2015 winners defeat the Netherlands to successfully defend their title ending a triumphant run through France. Their unique brand of brilliance and brashness won them few friends but they emerged victorious nonetheless and are expected to be greeted by thousands of fans on the streets of New York today.

We’ll have all the latest throughout the afternoon:

The entire team is now assembled on the stage, with the crowd chanting ‘USA! USA!’.

As the feud between Donald Trump and the team continues, Barack Obama has posted a congratulatory message to the victors:

Alex Morgan has just taken to the stage met with screams and cheers from the crowd.

Robin Roberts is now introducing the team one-by-one onto the stage in front of City Hall.

As the battle for equal pay rages on, lets remember how much the women’s team made in revenue in comparison to the men. Between 2016 and 2018 the women’s team made $50.8 million, where as the men made $49.9 million.

The mayor and first lady have now come out onto the steps of City Hall as they prepare to present the team with their keys to the city.

Serena Williams has said team USA have inspired her at Wimbledon. Read more from Jack Rathborn here:

As expected, Megan Rapinoe is living her best life at the parade today:

As the ticker tape parade is coming to the end of its route, the team will be given ceremonial keys to New York city by Mayor Bill de Blasio .

Scenes from the ticker tape parade:

“The politics of the World Cup have not been forgotten here in Manhattan. Plenty of signs have lined the canyon of hero’s pointing out the gender pay gap that this team of champions continues to fight in court.

“The crowd is on board, and have taken up similar chants to those heard just after the World Cup win itself: “Equal Pay! Equal Pay! Equal Pay!”‘

This is only the second time a women’s sports team has been celebrated with a ticker tape parade in NYC – the first being the soccer team’s World Cup win four years ago.

“The feeling is lively here, even after the World Cup champions have passed by where I’ve been reporting. Drum beats can be heard, alongside the drone of helicopters above as the ceremony gets started.

“Meanwhile, excited mothers and daughters walking through have been discussing which players they managed to glimpse.”

“Here at the parade, confetti and ticker tape has been dropped from as high as 20 floors up, while an excited crowd below has cheered on the succession of busses.

“It’s not just the World Cup champions, either: players of all ages have been on top of these buses, getting cheers from the crowd along the way.”

Governor of New York Andrew Cuomo has just posted a Tweet saying he has signed a new pay equality legislation at the ticker tape parade.

The team has been vocal in their fight for equal pay in football for years. In March this year, 28 members of the USA squad filed a gender discrimination lawsuit against the US Soccer Federation.

Both the team and crowds are now chanting “EQUAL PAY! EQUAL PAY!”

According to one person at the parade, members of team USA have been “giving the finger” to people in the crowd holding Trump 2020 signs.

The parade is continuing it’s route down the Canyon of Heroes on a beautifully sunny day in New York. People in offices and apartments are throwing confetti onto the victors as they pass by.
