This Morning's Holly Willoughby slams tip for fighting Coronavirus as fans fume

This Morning focused on helping viewers to fight back against Coronavirus today, as Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield welcomed on experts from all sorts of backgrounds.

First up, a doctor exploring a vaccine called in from the US, shortly followed by an etiquette expert offering advice on preventing contagion.

Instead of shaking hands, Phillip revealed people across the globe were touching elbows instead.

He commented: “I just wonder is it better not to do it rather than do it like that.”

Nodding her head, Holly scoffed: “Especially if you’re told to sneeze into your elbows!”

Holly suggested it might be unhygienic to touch elbows

Certain health warnings have suggested people ought to sneeze into their elbows to prevent the virus from spreading into the air.

The etiquette expert divided viewers when she recommended everyone wear gloves, as they fumed over the segment on Twitter.

One griped: “Seriously!! Teaching us Coronavirus etiquette?! Just say hello mate, FS.”

The etiquette expert advised viewers to carry a pair o gloves around with them

A second agreed: “#Coronavirus etiquette? Let’s just use basic hand hygiene!”

And a third remarked: “Gloves won’t make a difference if you touch your face with them.”

The expert advised viewers to carry disinfectant wipes with 90% alcohol-content around with them on a daily basis, to help clean nearby surfaces.

Holly and Phillip weren’t convinced by the trick of “touching elbows”

On top of that, in place of hugging as a form of greeting, she recommended: “We need to do it with our eyes.”

Encouraging viewers to grin and bear it, refraining from cancelling events, she added: “I’m a great believer in you sort of carry on.”

This Morning airs on weekdays at 10am on ITV.
