This Morning’s Alison Hammond insists Phillip Schofield ‘is loved’ amid ‘rift’ rumours on set

Alison Hammond has defended her This Morning colleague Phillip Schofield amid claims of toxicity and ‘complaints’ on set.

After Holly Willoughby and Phillip denied any rift between them this week, their roving reporter Alison has now stepped in to share her love for the TV stalwart.

She was responding to a post Phillip made earlier this year when he was accused of ‘blocking’ Amanda Holden from filling in for Holly, who took on I’m A Celebrity hosting duties in 2018.

Replying to Phil’s months-old tweet, Alison wrote this week: ‘YOU ARE LOVED full stop,’ along with a love heart emoji.

After weathering claims he was in a bit of a tiff with Amanda, he denied the reports, hoping the public ‘knew him better’.

‘The end of another really sad weekend,’ the 57-year-old began on Twitter in June. ‘When you try for 35 years to be the easiest, most fun person to work with and you read such hurtful and wildly untrue stories from nameless “sources”.

‘Obviously I’ll take it on the chin..I just hope you know me better.’

Replying to Alison’s message, fans rallied around Phil as they shared their own love for the presenter amid the current melee.

Reports emerged over the weekend alleging multiple This Morning hosts had filed official complaints against Schofe, who has presented the ITV show for 17 years.

The Sun reported Ruth Langsford was among the names to have moaned about the ‘toxic’ atmosphere on set while a video of her throwing a pen down in frustration after being cut off by the presenter resurfaced yesterday.

Uniting as the ultimate duo, Holly and Phil squashed rumours this week as they denied any suggestions of a rift in an interview with Newsbeat.

‘You couldn’t do the amount of hours of TV that we do with each other without getting on,’ Holly hit back.

‘We have such a laugh,’ added Phil. ‘We’re best mates, she’s like the sister I never had. I just adore working with her, she’s just perfect.’

In response to the accusations, a spokesperson for ITV said: ‘It’s deeply disappointing and unfair for Phillip to be the target of this sort of malicious gossip. Phillip is a much respected broadcaster and colleague and this is absolutely not a description of This Morning that we recognise. Holly and Phil are great friends both on and off screen and are popular among viewers and colleagues alike.’

Martin Frizell, Editor of This Morning added: ‘I spend hundreds of days a year in their company and what you see is what you get, a genuine friendship from a couple who are both spontaneously funny and professional. We have the smartest viewers watching telly and believe me they would be the first to notice any issues – they haven’t because there are none.’
