This Morning was thrown into chaos on Tuesday after celebrity chef Ainsley Harriet tried to break a World Record for the highest pancake toss.

And as you can imagine when Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield got involved, things didn’t quite go as planned.

To celebrate Shrove Tuesday, Ainsley started by showing Holly and Phillip how to make the perfect pancake and as the duo explained to viewers at home, it wasn’t an official Guinness World Record.

Phillip began: ‘In just a moment Ainsley Harriet will be attempting to toss a pancake over 31 feet in the air, 31 feet and two inches. He’s going to try and break the World Record for the highest pancake flip.

‘We asked Guinness if they wanted to come down from the World Record’s book but they couldn’t be bothered because they said it was too hard that they wouldn’t even bother to send someone down.’

Ainsley needed to flip the pancake 31 feet and two inches high and then be able to catch it again although it was so windy, Phillip added: ‘You have got no chance here.’

The challenge also needed an adjudicator and what better person for the job other than Alison Hammond?

The presenter, who is currently also among the Celebs Go Dating line-up stook at the top of the tower with her megaphone.

And after numerous attempts, poor Ainsley failed and kept flipping the pancake behind him instead of up…

‘Why does it go behind you?’ Holly asked as she and Phillip tried to flip a pancake.

The segment left viewers in stitches as many took to Twitter to share their thoughts.

One tweeted: ‘@AinsleyFoods tossing them pancakes has actually made my day.’

Another commented: ‘I was laughing so hard at @Schofe @AinsleyFoods and @hollywills flipping pancakes outside #thismorning. It was so funny even my mum laughed.’

A third added: ‘#thismorning has got me in stitches with their pancake tossing Rolling on the floor laughingFace with tears of joy so funny #PancakeDay.’

One said: ‘Watching Ainsley Harriott tossing a pancake on #ThisMorning high into the air. Hilarious!’

This Morning airs daily at 10pm on ITV.
