*Warning: Major spoilers for The Suicide Squad ahead*

The Suicide Squad has delighted and baffled fans in equal measure, with James Gunn’s DC movie being a gory, bizarre bonanza.

The follow-up to David Ayer’s 2016 flick features a star-studded cast, with the returning Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn alongside the likes of Idris Elba (Bloodsport), John Cena (Peacemaker), Pete Davidson (Blackguard), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Nathan Fillion (TDK), and Peter Capaldi (The Thinker).

However, not everyone makes it to the end of the film. In fact, not everyone makes it to the half-hour point.

While we expected plenty of our faves to be killed off, which we definitely got, we didn’t quite expect the immediate massacre which left Pete’s character Blackguard dead within the first 15 minutes of the film.

Fans couldn’t believe Pete’s character being killed off so quickly, with one writing: ‘No because pete davidson got about 4 seconds of screen time in suicide squad and that upset me.’

‘Suicide squad was good but they really killed my mans pete davidson in the first 10 min,’ another said.

One more added: ‘Pete Davidson carried the suicide squad and I want to hear any other opinions on this fact.’

As for who else was killed off, we kept track so you don’t have to.

Pete’s Blackguard was one of the first characters to be killed off, being shot after he attempted to sell out his own team. Can’t say he didn’t have it coming.

Mayling Ng’s Mongal is also killed early on, meeting a gruesome end in a fiery explosion on the beach.

Flula Borg’s Javelin meets his demise in a similar way, being killed by a wrecked plane on the beach. In his final moments, he’s able to hand off his javelin to Harley.

Nathan Fillion’s TDK also dies very early on, being shot down after showing off his skills.

The film’s first scenes feature Michael Rooker’s Savant being hired for the squad – but he meets his end shortly afterwards when he panics and tries to flee. Waller (Viola) detonates the bomb she set into his skull.

Jai Courtney’s Captain Boomerang was also one of those killed in the first few minutes of the film, with the character being impaled on some debris.

Peter Capaldi’s The Thinker makes it further into the film than most – but gets quite the dramatic death when Starro gets its revenge, pulling his body completely apart.

David Dastmalchian’s Polka-Dot Man, one of the weirdest heroes in the squad (and that’s saying something) is killed in the final battle after using his particularly strange set of skills to fight Starro. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out how he imagined, with him being crushed by the monster.

Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag also makes it through most of the film, but is killed off after a battle with Peacemaker when he decides the world needs to know about the US Government’s involvement in Starro’s creation.

Making it out alive were Weasel (despite him appearing to drown in the first few minutes of the film, he made a miraculous recovery in the final scene) alongside Margot’s Harley, Idris’ Bloodsport, John’s Peacemaker, Sylvester Stallone’s King Shark, Viola’s Waller, and Daniela Melchio’s Ratcatcher 2.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk and other press about how he chose the villains to star in The Suicide Squad, director James explained: ‘I selected them all in very different ways.

‘There were some characters like Harley [Quinn, played by Margot Robbie] who I wanted to put in the movie and [Captain Boomerang, played by Jai Courtney]. I liked them a lot, and I like the actors who have played them.’

He added: ‘But then there were other characters like Polka-Dot Man. I really wanted to use a character who was thought of as a lame supervillain. I literally put into Google “who is the dumbest super villain of all time” and Polka-Dot Man always came up near the top. Being able to take a character like that and then give him heart was fun for me.’

Discussing his other choices, James added: ‘I love rats, so Ratcatcher 2 [played by Daniela Melchior] was an easy one.’

‘I wanted to work with Idris [Elba],’ James added, discussing casting the actor as Bloodsport. ‘I wanted Idris to star in this movie. It wasn’t a matter so much of who the character was, it was “let’s find a character who’s obscure who we can build our own cinematic creation for Idris.”’

The Suicide Squad is in cinemas now.
