This is not a soap spoiler but someone on Coronation Street is causing a nuisance

In the land of the soap opera there is always going to be drama and problems with neighbours not getting on.

But in a real life Coronation Street a couple handed an Asbo insist that they’ve actually done nothing wrong.

Lynsey Mills, 36, and Rhys Hope faced a string of allegations since summer when they moved into the street in North Shields, Tyneside.

They’ve been accused of using racist language, but Lynsey says that can’t be true because ‘there isn’t even a black person in the street so I don’t know where they get that from. ‘

Problems arose after Rhys moved into Coronation Street last summer, but he insists that there are ‘just’ 10 people who have complained against them – including a complaint about them pouring soup through a letterbox.

Lynsey insists she’s the victim saying fireworks have been thrown at her, she’s been jumped on and she received a black eye.

The couple have been given a community protection notice following a string of complaints about fly -tipping, starting fires, and aggressive behaviour.

Lynsey said: ‘They are accusing us of fly-tipping – but someone else is throwing beds out on the street.

‘We just keep ourselves to ourselves yet we being accused of all this stuff. It is the other people that are causing the problems, not us.

‘I mean, the neighbours are saying we have been starting fires – but where is all the evidence?’

She added: ‘The police have been out because of this, even though we’ve done nothing wrong. All we want to do is just get on with our lives and have some peace.’

But one local, who wouldn’t be named, insisted that despite living in Coronation Street, the pair were no Jack and Vera.

They said: ‘They are very aggressive and threatening. They are out all the time shouting “you’re getting exposed, just watch” and calling some people “nonces”.

‘Honestly man, they just do your head in. They’ve only been here since last summer but people are already are so sick they want out.

‘People have tried to be nice to them but they are a nightmare – it’s awful living near them.’

A spokesman for the local council said there was sufficient evidence to issue them with the warnings adding there had been multiple complaints from both sides of the row.

But while those made by Rhys and Lynsey couldn’t be substantiated – some against them could.

For the pair, both not working due to long-term sickness, they fear it could cost them their home and their benefits axed.

Rhys said: ‘I’ve been a tenant with this council for years. Now they are saying I’m going around starting fires, but I’m not. This is all just my mental health.’

Lynsey claims they started making note of the trouble last October. Soon after, the calls to the council started.

Since then, Coronation Street has witnessed more drama than even the writers at the ITV soap could conjure up – with everything from people shadow boxing outside the home to name calling.

But for Lynsey, she claims she and Rhys – who met at a mental health meeting – are the ones having a horrid time.

And she’s so fed-up she claims she’s now heading to make a statement to police.

‘Some people have come after Rhys taxing him for his shopping and they keep calling us grasses every time we go out.

‘I’d hoped it would have died down by now – but it is only getting worse.

They are the ones driving around at night keeping us up with their cars, and sitting around drinking.

‘We just want to put our heads down.’
