Chelsea are set to announce a contract extension for Thiago Silva in the coming days after the Brazilian agreed to stay at the club following the side’s 1-0 win against Manchester City in the Champions League final.

The Brazilian joined the Blues on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain last summer and signed an initial one-year deal at Stamford Bridge.

However, his contract includes the option of a 12-month extension clause that requires both parties to agree in order for it to be activated.

Though Silva has struggled with injuries at points over the last year, the veteran has been in fine form for the Blues and the club have made it clear they want him to stay next term.

Silva came off after just nine minutes in Porto as Chelsea won the Champions League for the second time in their history against Manchester City.

After tasting defeat in last year’s final against Bayern Munich with PSG, Silva finally got his hands on the European Cup for the first time after Kai Havertz’s goal decided the game in Porto.

And widespread reports since the final claim Silva has now been convinced to stay at Stamford Bridge and that an announcement on his extension will come in the coming days.
