These are the top 5 luxury fashion items with the highest resale value

Who doesn’t love a luxury fashion item once in a while? It turns out a lot of people. 2019 has brought us puffed shoulders, textured dresses and a lot, I mean a lot of that white Zara polka dot dress.

It’s all too easy to window shop and end up in a luxury brand getting wrapped up the beauty of it all, channeling Carrie Bradshaw throughout the entire series of Sex And The City, but it turns out that actually buying these items could be a great investment to resell.

We’re not talking Hermes Birkin bags where the resale value is ridiculously out of price range for the average person here. Pieces from Gucci and Dior, whilst still expensive, are the bags to get if you have the stamina for saving for it. They’re great investment pieces for your fashionable self and eventually your financial self should you choose to enter into the resale game.

A website managing the secondhand resale marketplace, Thred Up, has placed the value of £16 billion for this year and is set to be worth over a staggering £41 billion by 2023. I think we all need to take a minute to digest this.

First off, let’s get to know what exactly is selling the most. Aggregation platform, Stylight has teamed up with Rebelle, a second hand luxury shop to bring us the items with the highest resale values and it’s mind blowing.

Gucci GG Marmont shoulder bag, £1, 775

Out of Stylight’s 12 million monthly users, this Gucci Marmont bag in raspberry-pink velvet takes the top spot for the most clicks. Although this colour is the most popular, the black version of the bag holds up well on the resale market.

It retails for £1,775 and is resold for approximated £998.

Dior Saddle Bag, £1, 950

The house of Dior had originally released the bag in 1999 under the creative direction of John Galliano, but it’s the current creative director Maria Grazia Churi that has brought the Saddle bag back into centre stage.

It retails for £1,950 and is on the reselling market at roughly £1,900.

Gucci Princetown, £585

2019 has seen the return of the leather slipper, and the most clicked-on Gucci leather slipper is the black leather pair embroidered with gold bees and star motifs.

It retails for £585 and resales at around £400.

Fendi Baguette Bag, £2,090

Fendi is known for its iconic use of F symbols spread across their items, and it still reigns supreme as one of the most popular and distinguishable brands. Rebelle’s data proves that the prices for this second hand Fendi timepiece has risen exponentially in the past few months, possibly due to the resurfacing of its iconic logo permeating through their designs, as well as being promoted by influencers.

It currently retails for around £2,090 and is the resale value is around the same price. It’s a stunning purchase for reselling.

Nike x Off White Air Force 1 Trainers, £120

Interestingly, the resale market for shoes works on completely different parameters. The resale value is dependant on the specific model of the shoe and limited edition pieces or capsule collection items have a value that is most likely going to increase.

It retails for around £120 and resells on sites such as Ebay for around £925.
