These are the ‘retro’ baby names predicted to be popular this decade – including Ruth, Helen and John


AS we enter a brand new decade the baby names predicted to be popular in the 2020’s have been revealed.

The rule of thumb says names come back into fashion after 100 years, so we’ve taken a look at what was popular back in the 1920s.

The roaring 20s were all about bootleg liquor, flapper girls and wild parties – if the Great Gatsby is anything to go by.

Vintage and retro style has come back into fashion lately, and names could soon follow suit.

If the 100-year theory is correct, we could be seeing a lot of Marys, Dorothys and Helens born.

The fourth most popular name from last century was Betty, followed by Margaret and then Ruth.

Next on the list is Virginia, Doris, and then Mildred, and finishing up the top 10 is Frances.

For boys, the most popular name of the 1920s, according to Huffington Post, was Robert, in second place was John, and third was James.

William was next, and making up the top five was Charles.

Another royally-inspired name was next, with George taking sixth spot, followed by Joseph, Richard and Edward, and in tenth place was Donald.

Over the past few decades there have been considerable shifts in the popularity of names, with Emma being the top choice of the 10s, according to Babycentre UK, while Emily reigned supreme in the 00s.

For boys, Noah was in first place last decade, while Jack was the most popular in the 00s.

There are some similarities between the decades, with Olivia appearing in both lists, while Sophia and Sophie, and Isabelle and Isabella, were also popular.

For boys, royal moniker William appeared in both decades, along with James.

And this mum made her son an incredible bedroom in the box room – complete with a secret play area.

While this mum made an incredible playhouse under the stairs for her daughter using bits from Homebase and eBay.

Meanwhile, this dad created a man cave under his stairs which other people have branded “genius”.
