Theresa May given ONE DAY to ‘roadmap’ resignation or MPs to FORCE her out by end of month

The Prime Minister was told she will have a plan forced on her if she doesn’t do it in the allotted time frame. Sir Graham Brady, the chairman of the 1922 committee, made the plans clear at a backbenchers meeting, according to the Daily Telegraph. Tensions were reportedly high after David Lidington confirmed Britain will be taking part in the European Parliament elections despite repeatedly saying they wouldn’t.

Mr Lidington told the Daily Telegraph: “It was regrettably not going to be possible to finish the Brexit process before the date that is legally due for European parliamentary elections.”

Mrs May‘s official spokesman added it was “a matter of deep regret to the Prime Minister that we have not been able to deliver Brexit on time”.

Sir Graham has reportedly given the Prime Minister until 4pm this Wednesday to come up with a plan.

He had previously asked Mrs May to make plans in a meeting two weeks ago, the paper reported.

Sources within the Conservative Party believe Sir Graham has hardened his stance against Mrs May’s departure after the local election losses last week.

A member of the executive said the pair would have “quite a direct conversation”.

They told the Daily Telegraph: “Graham will be advancing quite a strong view from us about the position and we can’t allow the situation to prevaricate.”

The 1922 committee will set a departure date if Mrs May doesn’t not manage to make plans in time.

The committee discussed last month that Mrs May would stand down as soon as the EU elections on May 23, the paper reported.

A new leader would then be selected from two candidates in the following two weeks.

Nigel Evans, another member of the executive, told the Daily Telegraph MPs are focused on getting Mrs May to decide on an exit date.

He said: “You can’t just kick the can down the road until December – we have seen the damage that was done at the local elections.

“We have got the European elections – that is going to be carnage, you have got the Peterborough by-election.

“We need a resolution because there is an existential threat to the Conservative Party. It needs to be dealt with.”
