There’s a reason why beauty lovers are obsessed with Pinterest (and it just keeps getting better)

Pinterest is known as one of the world’s most popular beauty platforms, an on-the-go resource for anyone in need of some visual inspiration, with a massive six million pins saved in the UK each day.

According to trending searches on Pinterest over the past year, ‘red lips’, purple lipstick, blue lipgloss and black lipstick looks were the looks that were inspiring people the most on the platform, which also included a surge in 90s-style lipliner and lipgloss searches.

It’s not just you and I who are pinning our way to happiness either – even Meghan Markle turned to the image-sharing site for inspiration ahead of her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018 – something her makeup artist Daniel Martin revealed in an interview last summer.

But there’s way more to the site than curating ideas. Pinterest has been seriously upping the ante in the past few years when it comes to finding your dreamiest beauty look. In an effort to make the platform more inclusive and user-friendly, Pinterest now lets you filter search results by skin tone as a way to make it easier to find what you may be looking for. It means no more irrelevant styles and more of what you’re likely to love. And the filter works on just about anything beauty-related, from hairstyles to makeup tutorials and skincare products.

There are other exciting things in the pipeline for beauty fans too. Using augmented reality (AR) technology, Pinterest users in the US are able to try different shades of lipstick on their faces before buying, thanks to the new ‘Try On’ feature. The platform uses its Lens computer vision technology to help beauty lovers visualise how a product might realistically look on their skin, with brands including Estée Lauder, Sephora, BareMinerals, L’Oréal and Urban Decay available to try. The technology has just been rolled out for US users only but the company says that the function will be launched globally in the future.

If you’ve not already signed up, scoot over to Pinterest right now. And while you’re there, why not follow GLAMOUR’s Pinterest page for all the beauty inspiration you need?
