There’s a new Turok game but it’s not what you’d expect

Turok: Escape From Lost Valley – we are actually all in favour of this

N64 first person shooter Turok: Dinosaur Hunter has finally seen a new entry but things have changed a bit since the old days.

Halo is often credited as the point at which first person shooters on consoles finally came of age, but before that it was the N64, not the Xbox, which was home to the best console shooters.

There was GoldenEye 007, of course, and there was also Turok: Dinosaur Hunter… and this new game doesn’t seem to have anything to do with that at all.

Turok is actually a comic book character and as we understand it the original games weren’t very accurate adaptations. Although we’re not sure this one necessarily is either.

The odd thing about Turok: Escape From Lost Valley (well, one of the odd things) is that it doesn’t seem to have had any kind of official annoucement and we can’t find any reference to it beyond the Steam product page that has suddenly just popped up.

So we have no idea what other formats it will be released on and have only the Steam blurb, which basically says nothing, and the trailer to go on as to what the game’s all about.

The Steam page does have an explanation of where the game came from though, in that it was created after film company Universal ran a Gamedev Challenge for indie developers to design games based on IP they own.

Which is actually a really neat idea, with the other IP being Voltron – which has been turned into some sort of weird mix between puzzle game and real-time strategy.

Both games are out on 25 July and if we find out what other formats they’re on we’ll update this story.
