The Witcher Author Has Never Played Its Video Games – Epicstream

Before Netflix made The Witcher a household name (or an internet name), most fans associated the franchise with CD Projekt Red’s video games. While the original books do have a lot of fans, it was the video games that helped this series gain popularity, especially when The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was released on multiple gaming systems, including the recent port for Nintendo Switch.

Andrzej Sapkowski, the original author for The Witcher, has never played the CD Projekt Red video games. This is quite the shocker since many would have assumed that he would at least try it to see how it matches the source material. Then again, Sapkowski doesn’t even work on the show so expecting him to care about the games after that revelation is a bit much.

He’s got nothing against the games or the show, Sapkowski simply prefers to books as a form of entertainment. Here is what he told io9:

“I cannot compare anything to video games, because I have never played any. Since I was a kid I haven’t played any games — with a possible exception of bridge and poker. Video games are simply not for me, I prefer books as entertainment.”

With CD Projekt Red recently signing a new deal to make more games based on The Witcher, there’s a good chance that Sapkowski won’t play them either. That’s fine since no one should force him to try a medium of entertainment he isn’t a fan of. Let’s just hope that he doesn’t sue CD Projekt Red again.

The Witcher 3 is now available on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
