Warning: Contains spoilers for The Walking Dead.

The casualties from Alpha’s massacre hangs heavy over The Walking Dead season 10, but a new theory reckons Siddiq could be hiding a dark secret.

Back in season nine, Whisperer leader Alpha (Samantha Morton) killed ten characters in one swoop, leaving Siddiq (Avi Nash) as the only survivor to act as a messenger to the others at Alexandria and Hilltop.

The aftermath of survivor’s guilt has become a reoccurring theme for Siddiq in season ten, seeing him suffer PTSD which triggers flashbacks to the incident in question.

Going by the first three episodes of season ten, these flashbacks are also designed in a way where audiences can’t grasp what’s going on – indicating the show is possibly hiding something which may have happened when Siddiq was captured.

So what could have happened? Redditor Yuiiski suggests Siddiq may have actually been the one who beheaded his friends – adding to the reason why he would feel such enormous guilt.

In a response, Redditor Gunsoverbutter wrote: ‘Ohh! Very interesting concept. I know they’ve been focusing on his PTSD, maybe a little too much. Starting to think he’s either a spy for Alpha (out of intimidation) or now maybe he did the beheadings.’

The spy angle could also be interesting considering there must have been a reason why they spared Siddiq over everyone else – potentially either because he was willing to kill the others, or because he sold himself out to protect his own life.

Either way, it’d certainly be an interesting twist which makes a lot of sense – considering Siddiq has only been a member of the group since season eight.

But would the show turn Carl’s last bastion of hope into a figure of betrayal? We’ll have to wait and see.

Avi Nash, who plays Siddiq, previously spoke to Metro.co.uk about Michonne’s exit and how Andrew Lincoln’s legacy continues to live on in the show.

The Walking Dead season 10 continues on Sunday in the US, and airs in the UK on Fox on Mondays.
