X Factor winner James Arthur has spoken frankly about his crippling anxiety and sex addiction, while Girls Aloud songstress Sarah Harding has struggled with alcohol abuse.
However, rather than it simply being left down to fate, the band – consisting of Bradley Simpson, Connor Ball, James McVey and Tristan Evans – insist they have worked hard to consciously avoid the darker side of the industry.
Speaking to Daily Star Online to celebrate the release of their new single Right Now ft Krept & Konan, Tristan explained: “People go through the dark side including us and I feel like it is important to talk about it.
“James and Conor are both voices for depression and anxiety amongst over things.
“It is good to speak out about things – everyone goes through that.”
Brad said: “Part of it is that we deal with anything that goes on as a close knit group, the four of us and also our family.
“The voices of reason are very close to us, you are the people you surround yourself with and we are very lucky that we have good group around us.
“If it ever gets to the point when we are going on like k***heads someone will go sit down but we don’t really have to tell each other off.”
The frontman continued: “It is so easy to fall into those negative behaviour patters, either if it is drinking or going out too much or whatever it is, it is very easy to fall into but it has to be a conscious decision to steer away from those things.”

Explaining how keeping healthy as individuals means their time in the band isn’t popping pills and doing shots ’till dawn, James added: “We are heathy individually and we keep up with the fitness.
“I think on tour if you are in an unhealthy band you naturally sway to an unhealthy lifestyle so it is good that we are surrounded by a team and crew who are all healthy and just wants the best for each other.”
This year, The Vamps will play London’s iconic O2 Arena for the fifth year in a row – making them the only band ever to do so.
In total, a staggering 100,000 fans will have seen them take to the stage at the East London venue alone once they wrap up their gig later this summer.

“With the first album I really took it in as I never thought we could do it again, but now it’s been every year it’s crazy,” Tristan explained.
“It’s such an amazing feeling for fans to keep coming back.”
Explaining how he doesn’t think the buzz of hitting the road will ever die, Conor said: “We have more control over the staging and the songs we play now, so it is actually more exciting than before to go on tour as we are getting more into it.
“We still get nervous with certain shows but nerves are a sign that we care and we all still very much owe it to the fans who have bought tickets to put on a good show and not be rubbish.”
