It’s the celeb relationship that has kept magazines in coverlines since the breakup heard around the world in January 2005.
It was the ultimate Hollywood romance when Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston were set up by their agents in 1998 – he was one of the biggest stars in the world and she was America’s sweetheart.
They tied the knot in a lavish Malibu ceremony / media circus in July 2000 with 200 guests and 50,0000 flowers that was swarmed by paparazzi in helicopters.
He made a cameo on Friends, she spoke of her desire to start a family and they had matching red-carpet looks (lots of cargo pants and chokers).
Then enter stage left: Angelina Jolie on the set of Mr and Mrs Smith in 2004, amid reports of sizzling sexual chemistry with co-star Brad.
In quick succession, Brad and Jen announced their separation and by April 2005, he was pictured on a beach with Jolie, playing dad to her son, Maddox – and Brangelina was born.
Now the latest chapter in the neverending saga that is the Brad n Jen show is that they are firmly in “friendly ex territory”, as evidenced at last night’s SAG Awards.
The former golden couple shared some warm words and an almost-embrace backstage at the ceremony. Another photo showed Aniston gently touching Pitt’s chest.
The Internet is now clamouring for a reunion (HE HELD HER WRIST!!!). The speculation began with Brad accepting his award onstage for Outstanding Performance by a Male actor in a Supporting role for “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood.” “I’ve got to add this to my Tinder profile,” he joked upon accepting the award.
Pitt even got in a dig at ex-wife Angelina Jolie – “Let’s be honest, it was a difficult part. The guy who gets high, takes his shirt off, and doesn’t get on with his wife. It’s a big stretch. Big.” Yikes. (Interestingly, Jen once famously described Brad as “missing a sensitivity chip” in her tell-all breakup interview with Vanity Fair in September 2005). The camera captured Jennifer gazing lovingly and clapping at the quip.
Brad was also spotted backstage saying “oh wow” as he watched Jen accept her SAG Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series for her turn in The Morning Show (in a slinky vintage Dior by John Galliano gown direct from her own closet). It seems the former golden couple have now moved on and are enjoying a mutually supportive relationship – maybe it’s time we moved on too.
But before we establish closure, let’s remember Brad and Jen’s most golden moments.
