A murder. A Lie. A stranger threatening to reveal your darkest secrets. Yes, Netflix are back with a haunting new psychological thriller that’ll leave you hiding under the duvet for days.
Based on Harlen Coben’s 2015 novel, The Stranger is an eight-part series based on a mysterious woman who confronts a man about his wife’s dark secrets.
Not got the creeps just yet? You clearly haven’t seen the trailer. It begins with Adam sat at a bar when he is approached by a stranger in a cap who suggests his picture-perfect life is not as it seems. As he delves further into her claims, Adam discovers he’s involved in a conspiracy theory that threatens to ruin his life.
Jennifer Saunders is starring in the leading role, a part that differs enormously from her previous roles in Absolutely Fabulous and French & Saunders. “I’m delighted to be playing Heidi in this new Harlan Coben drama,” she revealed. “There is a great cast and production team with strong credentials lined up and we are all looking forward to starting filming.”
Jennifer will be joined by The Hobbit’s Richard Armitage who plays Jennifer’s on-screen husband, Adam Price. “I could barely contain my excitement reading Harlan Coben’s The Stranger; a nail biting thriller with a huge beating heart and a dash of social commentary for extra bite,” he revealed.
Taking to Instagram, the actor uploaded a poster for the upcoming series with the caption “Jan 30th. The Stranger.” Oooh, the suspense.
“The Stranger was one of my most challenging novels — and definitely the most twisted,” Coben revealed to Radio Times. “When I wrote it, I never imagined I’d be part of a ‘Dream Team’ of extraordinary talent bringing it to life. I can’t wait to reunite with Danny, Nicola, and Netflix on this remarkable project.”
One word of advice: do not watch alone. You have been warned.
The Stranger will be released on Netflix from 30 Jan.
