The simulated exercise was performed by real uniformed officers, and demonstrated how riot squad professionals make arrests on the job.

Sam had agreed to be a willing participant in the training exercise overseen by Chief Superintendent Donna Adney.

‘This is going to simulate a forced entry where we might have a search warrant and we need to search a premises for evidence or a person of interest,’ Donna explained.

Sam played the role of a suspected drug dealer and was given instructions to ‘relax’ and not resist arrest.

He was also told to remove his wristwatch and take his keys out of his pockets for safety reasons before the operation.

Sunrise newsreader Natalie Barr looked concerned ahead of the segment, while host Sam Armytage said: ‘He’s going to get hurt!’

The ‘arrest’ began with riot police barging through the front door of a purpose-built training area and searching the individual rooms for Sam as he hid in a corner.

Once they found Sam, they threw him to the ground and began restraining his hands behind his back with zip ties.

Sam screamed, ‘I’m innocent, I’m innocent!’, as he was loaded into the back of a police car and driven away with the sirens blaring.
