The Secret Walt Disney Company Project is 'One Day At Disney'

When the schedule for the D23 Expo was released fans were intrigued to see a panel spot reserved for a secret Walt Disney Company Project.

Just ahead of this weekend’s event, Disney finally announced that the tantalising project is feature length documentary One Day At Disney, which will premiere on Disney + on December 3, and will then be followed by 52 short episodes every week.

As its title suggests, One Day At Disney chronicles one day in the life of the Walt Disney Company through the eyes of its employees.

Some of the individuals featured in the show include Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts, Walt Disney World Resort veterinarian Dr Natalie Mylniczenko, Marvel Studio’s head of visual development Ryan Meinerding, and legendary animator Eric Goldberg.

Jon Favreau will also be depicted making The Mandalorian for Disney +, while the recently inducted Disney Legends Robert Downey Jr, Bette Midler, Diane Sawyer and Christina Aguilera are all set to make appearances in the documentary, as well as dozens of other Disney employees.

At a panel for One Day At Disney at the D23 Expo over the weekend Wendy Lefkon the director of Disney Publishing, provided some details on its origins.

“It actually started five years ago,” explains Wendy. “But it really got off the ground 10 months ago. It was spearheaded by (Disney chairman) Bob Iger, who was so eager and enthusiastic for the project.”

At that point, One Day At Disney’s creative team then spent numerous weeks looking into various Disney jobs across Lucasfilm, Marvel Studios, Pixar and Disney Animation that would be depicted in the series, all while making sure that the individuals picked did jobs that were visually interesting.

After much discussion, the one day that the cast and crew of One Day At Disney decided to film on was February 21st, as this was when the Captain Marvel junket was being held.

This provided the perfect opportunity to show Disney’s humungous pool of talent, the bond between its employees, even though most of them have never met, as well as the sheer size and scope of the studio, how they come together to make a project work, and the impact that its films, shows, toys, theme parks, and news channels make across the world.

Jeffrey Epstein, the host of the panel and the director of Corporate Communications at Disney who was also involved in the project, noted that the D23 Expo was the perfect place to premiere One Day At Disney, as it too offers the incredible opportunity to recognize the work that everyone does across the Walt Disney Company.

As well as premiering on December 3 on Disney + the release of One Day At Disney will also be accompanied by a special 224-page coffee table book.
