The reality behind buying a house from The Block

‘We had a garage full of about 100 spare pillows!’ The reality behind buying a house from The Block

There is a downside to buying one of The Block’s fully-furnished homes, according to one homeowner.

Speaking to realestate.com.au on Friday, the owner of Hannah and Clint’s 2017 reno, Mike Gill, confessed he originally never set out to buy the Melbourne property.

A fan of the long-running renovation show, Mike and his wife decided to attend one of the auctions, and before they knew it, they were new homeowners.

He said it was only after he and his family actually moved into the house that they discovered there was no shortage of pillows.

‘We had this issue where we had a garage full of spare pillows and cushions, there were about a hundred of them,’ he confessed.

He added that while they loved the home’s furnishings, he and his family also wanted to personalise the property.

Mike said they knocked down a couple of walls in the home, including one in the living room, to help open the area up.

They also installed a new outdoor kitchen in the yard, put in some skylights in one of the corridors, and planted some more trees outside for additional privacy.

He said they also transformed the mini-bar area into a study.

Despite all the changes though, Mike said he and his wife still maintained the overall vibe of the home, which was a large part of why they bought it.

Mike said most visitors to their home usually recognise it from The Block almost as soon as they step inside.

He added: ‘There’s no chance we’re selling anytime soon.’
