The most popular girls and boys’ names in the world – with royals George, Charlotte and Louis making the cut

THE most popular boys and girls’ names in the world have been revealed, with royally-approved George, Charlotte and Louis making the cut. 

Data from other countries, including New Zealand, Turkey, Monaco and Albania, has been released showing their top names from last year.

Website Nameberry revealed the choices that have world-wide appeal, taking into account spelling variations. 

While Olivia topped the list for the UK in 2019, it was ranked third in the international list. 

In first place for girls was Mila, which made the top 10 in Flanders, Monaco, the Netherlands, New Zealand and Scotland, followed by Amelia, also spelled as Amelja.

Sophie was in fourth place, with Sophia listed in the top 10 in Scotland, while Isla made up the top five. 

Next were two royally-inspired names, with Victoria – also spelled as Viktoria –  in sixth place, and Charlotte came seventh overall.

Next was Emma, followed by Ella and finally Ava took the last spot. 

For boys, Noah topped the list after being listed in the top 10 in New Zealand, Scotland and Flanders. 

Next was Lucas, and third was Leo, followed by James. 

In fifth place is Louis – also spelled as Luis – with Liam following, and Jack taking the seventh spot. 

Oliver is in eighth place, and only then do we get to the eldest Cambridge child, with George ranked in ninth place. 

Lastly Mateo, also spelled as Matteo, made up the top ten boys’ names, being popular in Albania and Monaco. 

Nameberry said: “These rankings are based primarily on the number of times each name featured in a national Top 10, taking into account other high rankings (where available) and the popularity of closely related names.”
