The most popular baby names of the last decade, and Emma, Sophia and Noah all make the grade


THE most popular baby names over the past ten years have been revealed and traditional choices reign supreme.

As the 2010s draw to a close, classic options such as Olivia and Michael made the top ten for boys and girls.

Website Nameberry collated the most popular picks over the last decade, and for girls Emma comes out on top.

Other familiar choices such as Sophie, Abigail, Emily and Isabella all feature in the top ten, with a royally-inspired Charlotte in tenth place.

The name Elizabeth just missed out a place in the top 10, coming in 11th place.

More royal favourites were found in the most common boys’ names, with William coming in fifth place, while Alexander – Prince Louis’ middle name – was eighth.

Top ten girls’ names over the past decade

  • Isabella
  • Ava
  • Mia
  • Abigail
  • Emily
  • Madison
  • Charlotte

The top ten include a few biblical choices, with Noah in first place, Jacob coming third and Elijah in tenth position.

Other common names including Mason, Ethan and James made up the top ten.  

Nameberry said: “The top baby names of the 2010s — the decade that is drawing to a close — are dominated by classic names still used by a wide range of parents.”

While they acknowledged the most popular names of the 2010s were also “solid traditional” names, they noted they had decreased in use.

Names such as Samantha, Hannah, Andrew and Joseph were more
popular last decade, but seemed to have fallen out of favour in recent times.
