The most ‘internationally focussed’ royal revealed – and it’s NOT the Queen

The royal family, with Queen Elizabeth II at the helm, is a focal point both in the UK and worldwide. Its members often undertake overseas excursions through the year, to promote good relations and the status on the crown. Currently, first in line to the throne Prince Charles and his wife Camilla are in Cuba. Meanwhile the Queen, 92, has graced more than 120 countries during her tenure as the UK’s longest-serving monarch.

Yet even that impressive achievement is not enough to see Prince Philip’s wife hailed as the most “internationally focussed” royal, according to biographer Robert Hardman.

In his new book, Queen of the World, he has shed light on how it is fact the Queen’s grandson, Prince Harry, 34, has taken the title for his royal travel duties.

In the book he wrote: “If carrying out a relevant modern role has been a challenge for the Duke of Cambridge, it has been even more of one for his younger brother.

“‘The future is on tramlines for William and we know what has to happen,’ said a senior member of the royal household.

“It’s different for Harry. He has much more scope but there can be no entitlement and that is difficult.

“What is the point of a 21st century prince? Why have we got you? What are you supposed to be doing?

“He knows those are the questions.’.

“As a result, the Prince has become perhaps the most internationally focussed member of the royal family – and not merely in his choice of bride.”

Prince Harry married American actress, Meghan Markle, at Windsor Castle last May.

His most recent international excursion was to Morocco, with a heavily-pregnant Meghan, in February.

Yet he may have earned his so-called “internationally focussed” status much earlier.

In 2003, Prince Charles’ son embarked on a gap year which saw him undertake ranch work in Australia and charity projects in Africa.

In 2007 and 2012, he ventured to Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, his work with his Invictus Games charity, has seen him travel the globe.

Prince Harry’s brother, Prince William, has in contrast been hailed “Brexit balm” amid the UK’s ongoing political turmoil with the EU.
