The most exciting new flight routes for 2020


With Christmas coming to a close, it’s time to get something else in the calendar to look forward to – so why not book a new year trip ?

Whether you’re looking to make the most of Easter or the May Bank Holidays – or even if you’re looking as far as the height of summer, there are a slew of new flight routes to take you somewhere exotic in 2020.

From buzzing Portland in the US to Pula on Croatia’s coast or Kosovo’s capital, these routes will have your long-haul vacation, sunshine fix and city break  sorted.


Portland, USA

Airline: British Airways

Launching: June 2020

Discover America’s coolest city with British Airways’ newest long-haul launch. A direct 9.5hr flight will take you to the north west coast of the USA, where you can discover the laid back lifestyle that has put Portland on the map. With return flights from £452 per person, sampling Portland’s microbreweries and coffee shops will be easier than ever.

Preveza, Greece

Launching: summer 2020

From May through to November 2020, Jet2 will operate flights and holidays to Preveza in Greece for the first time. Flights will depart from Birmingham, London Stansted and Manchester with four weekly flights. When there discover the 60 kilometres of beautiful beaches at your disposal or travel to nearby Parga and Lefkada for more gorgeous scenery.

Girona, Spain

Launching: April 2020

Ryanair has bolstered its summer schedule for 2020 and introduced a new route to Spain’s Girona from London Southend. With two flights per week, the city in Spain’s north eastern Catalonia region, with its medieval architecture and walled Old Quarter, is the perfect city break.

Launching: April 28, 2020

Launching just in time for summer, flights from London Luton to Pula, Croatia with easyJet will take off at the end of April. The seafront city sits at the tip of Croatia’s Istrian Peninsula and is known for its Roman ruins and coast peppered with beautiful beaches. Flights here start from £26.99 and easyJet also flies to Pula from London Gatwick and London Southend.

Launching: July 2, 2020

A brand new route is launching next summer, with BA taking passengers to Italy’s Perugia. With flights departing on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays from July 2 to August 31, in Perugia you’re perfectly placed to discover the hill towns of Umbria.

Enfidha, Tunisia

Launching: May 2, 2020

EasyJet is resuming flights to Tunisia in 2020 following a stop on all flights to the country since the 2015 Sousse massacre. The carrier will operate twice weekly flights from London Gatwick to the beach resort of Enfidha from May 2, 2020, with flights departing on Saturdays and Wednesdays.

San Sebastian, Spain

Launching: July 2020

With twice weekly services from London City Airport, British Airways’ new direct flight to San Sebastian will be a go-to for summer 2020. Just two hours from London and £74 each way, discover the city nestled in Spain’s mountainous Basque County and dine on the renowned Pintxos (Basque tapas).

Zadar, Croatia

Launching: summer 2020

Jet2 will operate twice weekly flights to Zadar from both London Stansted and Manchester airports from May to early November 2020. Sitting pretty on the Dalmatian Coast, travellers will find remnants of Zadar’s Roman history throughout the city and be enchanted by the pretty promenades and lush lagoons.

Launching: July 4, 2020

BA will fly to Montenegro’s capital of Podgorica for the first time in 2020, with a weekly flight departing on Saturdays from July 4 to August 29. This vibrant city is the perfect gateway to discovering Montenegro’s beautiful beaches and mountain hiking trails.

Tirana, Albania

Launching: May 1, 2020

From the start of May 2020, easyJet will fly to Albania’s capital of Tirana. Flying on Saturdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, flights start at £30.99 one-way. Once there, discover Tirana’s charismatic bars and restaurants and the streets filled with vibrantly painted homes.

Another newcomer on British Airways’ summer itinerary, Kosovo’s capital of Pristina will depart weekly on Saturdays from July 4 to August 29. A small but spirited nation in the heart of the Balkans, explore its charming towns and primed hiking tracks.

Verona, Italy

Launching: March 30, 2020

Famous for being the setting of Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’, Verona is now easier to get to than ever with a new flight route from easyJet. Starting in late March, easyJet will offer both flights and holiday packages to the Italian city from London Luton, with flights departing on Fridays and Mondays and starting from £28.99 one-way. EasyJet already flies to Verona from London Gatwick on various days.

Dalaman and Bodrum, Turkey

Launching: May 23, 2020

The beachside towns of Dalaman and Bodrum in Turkey will be added back on to BA’s itinerary next summer, with flights departing from London Heathrow from May 23 through to October 24. Flights will depart weekly on Saturdays and customers flying to Dalaman can choose to fly out of Gatwick too as BA already operates a weekly service from here.
