The Masked Singer's Bagpipes identity revealed as Scots-themed character leaves show

Pat Cash has been confirmed as Bagpipes on The Masked singer despite John McEnroe being the most popular guess among viewers.

The Aussie Wimbledon champ was finally unmasked a baffled judging panel thought he might even be Bodycoach Joe Wicks.

Pat who sang Bay City Rollers hit I Only Wanna To Be With You as his final song on the show had shown off a dodgy Scottish accent throughout his time on the series.

He explained: “I do have Scottish blood so apologies to everyone in Scotland.”

He also revealed his headband belonged to his favourite band Cheap Trick and was originally their guitar strap.

Pat Cash was revealed as The Masked Singer behind Bagpipes

One of the clues had referred to AC/DC rock band who of course were from his native Australia.

Another clue had referred to him playing guitar with a tumbling rock – aka Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood.

‘Straight Talking’ being his middle name referred to his blog which is also called that and other clues including love, grass, juice and ace were all references to Pat’s tennis career.

Pat said: “I’ve always been a frustrated rock star and fancied doing the Masked Singer from the first day I saw it.

“I just thought it would be so much fun to rock out, although I prefer to hide behind a guitar instead of a sweaty mask. It was a great experience overall.

“As luck would have it, my schedule cleared. I’m a big believer in letting your higher power take over and I suppose it meant I was able to take part in the show.”

He added: “One of the biggest clues was in my second song “Teenage Dirtbag”. The guys in Iron Maiden are great friends of mine, have been for 30 plus years and the lyrics say, “listen to Iron Maiden baby with me.

“I’m surprised no one picked that up. However, there was a clearer clue about ‘climbing the heights of my career’.”

“The ‘climbing’ was about my famous or infamous climb out of the arena to celebrate with the support team. I was the first athlete to do this. It’s something I’m very proud of and is still extremely emotional to this day.”

Judges Jonathan Ross and Davina McCall had argued earlier over which tennis star was on the stage.

Davina was convinced it was Pat – who lives in London while Jonathan committed: “If that’s not John McEnroe, I will eat one of his pipes!”

Jonathan even revealed John McEnroe once had the band Cheap Trick perform at his very own birthday party.

Sadly he was wrong and ended up being filmed trying to munch on one of the bagpipes.
