The Masked Singer star admits they’re ‘delighted’ to be kicked off

Teddy Sheringham was the latest celebrity to be unmasked on the ITV reality show, but it seems he is very happy that he doesn’t have to perform anymore despite giving it his best shot. He has now revealed that he didn’t have any support going into competition but is now “delighted” to have been kicked out.

The Masked Singer sees well-known faces dress up in extravagant outfits concealing their identity from everyone, even their own families.

The four judges then have to guess who is behind the mask from the clues the celebrities give.

Teddy Sheringham, the ex-England footballer was unmaked after dressing in a huge tree costume this weekend.

He sang Evergreen by Will Young and admitted he’s never heard the song before and it was a struggle to remember all the words, but he did it.

The judges were shocked to see Teddy standing in front of them, not one of them was able to guess, but it seems he is very happy to have finally been unmasked.

Teddy explained: “I have 8 year old and 6 year old who were so upset and I was like ‘no, no don’t be upset’.

“I am delighted to be out of the show. I’m not a singer. I had a bit of fun and that’s what I tried my best that’s all I was trying to prove.”

Was the footballing legend worried about the judges’ comments or the viewers’ reactions?

Not at all, he said: “Why would you worry about criticism? Just for a bit of fun and if it’s good it’s good if it’s not it’s not.”

Teddy explained why he thought the judges weren’t able to work out who was behind the mask.

He added: “I don’t really know. I think there were quite a lot of good guesses and they were in the right ballpark area but obviously, I don’t think they’re the most sporty panel.

“Jonathan Ross doesn’t really know his footballers does he? So you just name the ones you know really and hopefully you get them.”

He concluded talking about the weight of his costume saying: “It was quite lightweight for how heavy it looked. It was very lightweight and well put together, there were probably about four different bits that you had to attach and then obviously putting the head mask on but it wasn’t bad.”

The Masked Singer continues on ITV on Saturday at 7pm.
