The Masked Singer: Jason Manford details drastic measures to keep identities a secret

The Masked Singer is over (for now) after the last three standing contestants, Hedgehog, Queen Bee and Octopus all took off the heads of their extravagant costumes to reveal their true identities. With the winner announced as Queen Bee managing to fool everyone, former Girls Aloud star Nicola Roberts took home the crown.

In third place was Opera singer Katherine Jenkins as Octopus and Hedgehog was revealed to be comedian Jason Manford, who has now detailed the extreme lengths he had to go to so that he could keep his identity a mystery.

Host Joel Dommett already leaked on Sunday Brunch that the participants have to keep their faces covered at all times while in the studio and backstage before the shows, so as not to give away who they are.

He admitted that even he didn’t know who was under the suits, and only a select few members of the crew were aware.

And, it seems what he said was all too true, as Jason had to wear exactly what Joel described – a balaclava, gloves and a hoodie that had ‘Don’t speak to me’ written on it.

The series saw judges Rita Ora, Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall and US comedian Ken Jeong attempt to guess the celebrities singing behind giant masks and costumes.

The show proved a huge hit, as over eight million viewers tuned into watch Nicola take home the title.

But she also admitted that it wasn’t all plain sailing.

In an exclusive interview with The Sun, she said: “The amount of layers I had on to conceal every part of my skin and hair was unbelievable.

“I had a balaclava and gloves all the way up my arms then the mask.

“It was absolutely boiling in the studio, there was no air or ventilation in the mask, so you’re breathing in the air that you’re breathing out. I was gasping throughout the song. I felt like I was a ball of fire,” she exclaimed.

At the moment, there has been no official announcement from ITV confirming that there will be a second series following the success of the first season, so fans will have to wait and see as to whether it’ll be back next year!
