The Marvels director Nia DaCosta explained why she still believes “The Snap” in Avengers: Infinity War actually is Captain America’s fault. Back in 2021, the filmmaker shared her controversial Marvel take, claiming that Captain America is to blame for the ending of Avengers: Infinity War, saying that the snap was his fault because he could have simply sacrificed Vision to prevent all the suffering that followed. Notably, DaCosta isn’t alone in her opinion and many Marvel fans have similarly wondered if things in the MCU could have been very different if a sacrifice had been made.
During a recent chat with ComicBook.com, DaCosta explained why she still believes that Infinity War was Captain America’s fault, but noted that it’s part of why he’s such a great character. As DaCosta explained…
“The reason why it’s his fault is the reason why he’s such an amazing hero because he’s like, ‘we’re not gonna sacrifice anyone. Like, there always has to be another way.’ He was incorrect, but he was also right in the end, because everything was fine. We did lose some people that we care about. But it is his fault because he should have just ripped that thing out of his homie’s head from the beginning. But, again, that’s what makes him such a great character and I think some of the amazing success of that first part of the MCU was those characters were so true to themselves. They made sense of all the decisions they made even if you didn’t agree with them. They make perfect sense to who they were so even though I blame him, I understand.”

With The Marvels being the next major movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there have already been plenty of rumors that the X-Men (who will be appearing in the MCU), will be popping up in DaCosta’s new film. While the director avoided sharing any possible spoilers while chatting with Jake’s Takes, she did reveal that there are two specific X-Men that she’d love to see together onscreen. DaCosta said:
“I really like Scott Summer and Storm together and their dynamic fighting over who should lead the X-Men, like in the Chris Claremont run. I think some Cyclops and Storm team-up movie would be fun.”
The Marvels is directed by DaCosta and written by DaCosta, Megan McDonnell, and Elissa Karasik. The Marvels stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers (aka Captain Marvel), Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan (aka Ms. Marvel), and Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau. The upcoming MCU film will also feature Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Saagar Shaikh as Aamir Khan, Zenobia Shroff as Muneeba Khan, and Mohan Kapur as Yusuf Khan. New cast members will include Zawe Ashton, Park Seo-joon, and Shamier Anderson.
The film sees Larson’s Carol Danvers (aka Captain Marvel) powers become entangled with Vellani’s Kamala Khan (aka Ms. Marvel) and Parris’s Monica Rambeau, essentially forcing the trio to team up to save the universe.
The Marvels hits theaters on November 10th. Check out the final trailer below:
