The Mandalorian has dropped its newest trailer ahead of its launch on Disney+, and the show promises to take fans back to a galaxy far, far away… but not as we know it.

Set between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, the newest Star Wars spin-off follows the Mandalorian on his journey through the galaxy, with a mysterious character (played by noted director Werner Herzog no less) sharing that ‘bounty hunting is a complicated profession’.

The new clip is peppered with shots establishing a galaxy in chaos; from the helmets of Stormtroopers mounted on spikes to the titular bounty hunter (Game of Thrones’ Pedro Pascal) engaging in battles with space beasts and the troops of the fallen Empire.

The trailer doesn’t give much away plot wise – although we do get a small tease of Gina Carano’s character and a spirited fight between The Mandalorian and an alien attacker – but we do know that the series’ first episode will contain a major spoiler concerning the Star Wars universe at large.

‘It’s a world more peaceful since the revolution,’ Herzog’s character continues, but we’re going to take that with a pinch of salt, given what we’ve seen in the trailer so far.

Unrest in the galaxy was previously hinted at by the series’ director Dave Filoni who said: ‘This doesn’t turn into a good guy universe because you blew up two Death Stars. ‘You get that the Rebels won and they’re trying to establish a Republic, but there’s no way that could have set in for everybody all at once.’

Show creator Jon Favreau added: ‘What could happen in the 30 years between celebrating the defeat of the Empire and then the First Order? ‘You come in on Episode VII, [and the First Order are] not just starting out. They’re pretty far along. So somehow, things weren’t necessarily managed as well as they could have been if they ended up in hot water again like that.’

Episodes of The Mandalorian will be dropping weekly following its launch, with the space opera’s finale coinciding with the release of The Rise of Skywalker in December.

There’s also much more Star Wars content heading our way, including Ewan McGregor’s return as Obi-Wan Kenobi, with the actor admitting today that the new spin-off has been a ‘long time coming.’

The Mandalorian launches on Disney+ on 12 November.
