Well over two years after its release in 2017, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is still throwing up surprises for players – and the latest one to be unearthed might be one of the best yet.
People started to notice similarities between Lurelin Village, which sits to the south of the map, and Outset Island, the starting point for Link’s adventure in 2002’s The Wind Waker. GameXplain put together a short video that makes the similarities explicit, and it’s kind of breathtaking that it’s been sitting their under our noses the whole time.
The layout of the village is more than familiar, while the telltale look-out post is positioned in just the right point – and from high up on the perch, the similarities are undeniable.
It’s not the only place in Breath of the Wild’s Hyrule to hark back to older games, of course, with Lon Lon Ranch making an appearance – as well as Hyrule Castle. And it suggests there are still more secrets to be unearthed in Breath of the Wild – only last week, players discovered an underwater ecosystem previously locked off thanks to a glitch.
We’ll probably still be finding new things in Breath of the Wild beyond the point that its recently announced sequel is released – whenever that may be.
