Following the surprise annoucement that Death Stranding will be out this Christmas, it seems The Last Of Us Part II was originally supposed to be out same time as well.

Just prior to the Death Stranding annoucement a number of sources in Spain and Kotaku writer Jason Schreier suggested that a release date for The Last Of Us Part II was about to be announced and would be sometimes this autumn.

The Death Stranding annoucement seemed to come out of the blue though, perhaps implying that the two release dates had been swapped at the last minute.

According to Schreier The Last Of Us Part II has now been ‘bumped’ to early 2020, possibly in February – although he seems uncertain as to the exact month.

What this implies about the game’s current development is unclear, as nothing has really bene unveiled about it since last E3 – beyond some vague tweets confirming that work on the story cut scenes is already complete.

Developer Naughty Dog were still hiring new developers as recently as this month, which makes more sense if that means there’s at least nine months to go.

The main question now, beyond the exact release date, is when there’ll be a new trailer for the game. If Sony had been at E3 there’d almost certainly be one next month, but in their absence it’s unclear when more will be seen of the game.
