To mark the UK leaving the European Union, Adam Hills finally shaved off his beard – and fans could not be more proud of him.

The comedian had notably grown a rather long ‘Brexit beard’ for the last 15 months, as he previously declared that he would not shave until Brexit finally happened.

Appearing on a special Brexit edition of The Last Leg tonight, the time had come for him to chop his locks, as he declared at the start of the show: ‘We don’t need to explain the big news of the night, because we know what it is.

‘The big moment is happening at 11pm, it’s time to move on together and accept the result.

‘It’s divided a country, it’s certainly divided my family, the public have voted, tonight at 11 o’clock, my beard is coming off.’

Later on, as it grew closer to 11pm, we then saw Adam joined by his co-hosts Josh Widdicombe and Alex Brooker, as well as Armando Iannucci, Guz Khan, Aisling Bea and Geoff Norcott,  they all counted down from 10 as Adam prepared to have his beard cut off once and for all.

‘This is the only exciting thing happening right now,’ he stated, as the studio audience began to count from 10.

And as the clock struck 11 o’clock, off went the beard, as Josh and Alex proceeded to shave it off with razors, while the rest of the crew rang giant bells in the background.

It wasn’t just the beard that went, as Adam’s moustache got shaved off too.

Just as Josh and Alex finished shaving his beard, Aisling pointed out something was up with Adam’s ear – and it looks as if it may have been cut in the process.

‘What’s happened to my ear?’ he questioned.

‘Don’t worry about it, it’s just a bit of blood mate,’ Alex joked in reply.

Adam plans to auction the beard online, with all proceeds helping to aid the devastation caused by the Australian bushfires.

Fans were absolutely loving the moment, with one tweeting: ‘Comedy TV from the last leg shaving off Adam’s beard declaring brexit with a countdown brilliant!’

Another fan wrote: ‘The only good thing about Brexit day is that Adam Hills’ beard coming off #TheBeardIsComingOff #TheLastLeg.’

‘#TheBeardIsComingOff Finally Adam Hills’ you look so much better without the beard – at least 10 years younger!’ another viewer gushed.

Adam previously appeared on This Morning to speak about his plans to shave his beard, and when asked how he felt to finally say goodbye to his facial hair, he said: ‘Last night I gave it one last shampoo and put beard oil in it and I got wishful… I was going to see this joke through to the end.’

He certainly did.
