THE largest overwater villa in the world has opened in the Maldives, with a 19m waterslide, private pool and retractable roof.
Glass floor panels, as well as a wooden decking area with outdoor bath and sun loungers are part of the fancy experience at Soneva Fushi.

There is also a second floor with a dining room, as well as a fully stocked fridge with drinks and snacks.
The retractable roof is over the master bedroom, so guests can watch the stars at night, while both the slide and external steps lead directly into the ocean.
If the open sea doesn’t do it for you, the private pool overlooking the water is also an option.
To avoid noise from the waves and jet-skis, the villas have been built higher up than some of the other villas.

The new villas have opened at the luxury Soneva Fushi resort, with eight of them open to guests.
The one-bedroom villa is 6,286 square feet and the two-bedroom villa measures 9,224sqf.
There are bigger overall villas in the Maldives, but these are the largest in the country which are just one and two bedrooms.
If you fancy staying, the villas will set you back a few thousand – the one-bedroom villas start from £2,066 a night, while the two-bedroom villas cost £4,117.
However, Soneva Fushi is known for being one of the most luxurious private resorts in the Maldives, located on the Baa Atoll, and is famous for its jungle cabins.

While overwater villas are common across the Maldives, these are the first for Soneva Fushi, with enough to entertain on the island with numerous restaurants, the largest outdoor film screen in the Indian Ocean and even a glass-blowing centre.
The resort is also known for hiring a bookseller every year to live and work on the island – and is recruiting once again.
Avid readers can become the “barefoot bookseller” by running the shop and reading experiences for guests, while having all accommodation and food paid for.
Unfortunately, the country remains on the UK quarantine list, meaning you will have to self-isolate on your return.
You will also need a negative coronavirus test to be able to enter the Maldives, taken up to 72 hours before travelling, and island hopping is not allowed.
