Who are The Killers?

Formed in Las Vegas, The Killers are a four-piece, American rock band led by lead singer Brandon Flowers.

They have been on the music scene since 2004.

Having sold an estimated 22 million records worldwide, The Killers have proven to be one of the most successful rock bands of the 21st Century.

Following the release of their album Wonderful Wonderful, the band returned to the UK for another tour in July 2018.

The Killers were also nominated for Best International Group at the Brit Awards 2018. They won the award in 2017.

What were the reviews for their show?

Given that The Killers were one of the most popular acts to perform at Glastonbury this year, there definitely seemed to be a lot of pressure for the boys to deliver.

However, fans and critics agreed in saying that the band did an incredible job with their two-hour slot, giving them to perform some of their biggest hits along with having special guests join them on stage.

The group had walked out to Frank Sinatra’s Luck Be A Lady, before drifting back into their catalogue of hits.

The Pet Shop Boys were introduced by frontman Brandon Flowers as they geared up to perform Always On My Mind and a few other songs.

Johnny Marr was also present, having performed at the festival earlier in the day – but he clearly couldn’t get enough.

Johnny and The Killers united for an electrifying cover of This Charming Man, having brought the curtains down on the festival’s second night of music.

The Guardian gave the thrilling show 5 stars, with journalist Alexis Petridis describing it as an “anthemic headliners triumph.”

“Indeed, if Flowers worked any harder to win over the crowd, he’d be down among them smearing them with after-sun cream and asking if they want him to pop to a stall and get them some Rizlas.”

NME echoed similar words, reporting: “The Killers have easily done enough to make amends for 2007 and join the roll-call of true Glastonbury legends, just like they did at Wembley Stadium that time.”

When are The Killers performing at Glastonbury, when does it start and what’s the setlist?

Why Mr Brightside is still in the UK charts?

Mr Brightside reached No10 in the UK Top 40 Charts.

While it is internationally acclaimed and, arguably, one of the most catchy songs going, it has never been at number 1 in the UK or US.

In March 2018 it achieved its 200th week in the Top 100.

According to British Phonographic Industry, Mr Brightside is the most streamed song of any track released before 2010.

From March 2017-2018 it was the most streamed song of any with a release date before 2010.

The success of the track appears to be down to the fact that it is viewed as an anthem and is popular among ageing millenials.

It was also voted ninth in the Greatest Guitar Riffs of the 21st Century so far by Total Guitar magazine in 2010.

It’s popularity has also been attributed to the band’s tours and it frequently being played at parties.

What other songs have The Killers released?

Somebody Told Me reached number 3 in the UK charts.

Smile Like You Mean It made number 11 with When You Were Young hitting No2.

They also had top 10 hits with Human in 2008.

All These Things That I’ve Done, Read My Mind, Tranquilize and Runaways all made the top 20.

And the band’s single Bones – that was featured on their second album, Sam’s Town – also had a music video directed by Tim Burton.

As a result, the music video won Best Video at the NME Awards in 2007.
