Martin Scorsese’s crime drama “The Irishman” came up big with New York film critics, taking the top prize of best picture and supporting actor for Joe Pesci.
The New York Film Critics Circle, at the board’s annual meeting, continued to build awards momentum for the Netflix film after “Irishman” took top honors from the National Board of Review this week.
The New York critics gave the top directors award to Benny and Josh Safdie for their film starring Adam Sandler, “Uncut Gems” (also honored by the National Board
Lupita Nyong’o was honored as best actress in Jordan Peele’s horror film “Us” while Antonio Banderas took best actor for writer-director Pedro Almodóvar’s “Pain and Glory.”

- Writer-director Quentin Tarantino won for best screenplay for “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.”
- Laura Dern was awarded best supporting actor for her roles in both “Little Women” and “A Marriage Story.”
- Director Bong Joon-ho’s “Parasite” took best foreign film.
- The Netflix animated film “I Lost My Body” beat out the big studio offerings from “Frozen 2” to “Toy Story 4” to win best animated film.
