England hero Jofra Archer insists he is delighted to be playing alongside West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell and Australia opener David Warner in The Hundred.

Southern Brave, coached by Sri Lanka legend Mahela Jayawardene, spent a total of £250,000 on the signings of Russell and Warner at Sunday’s draft.

The Southampton-based team had previously signed England fast bowler Archer, England T20 star Chris Jordan and Hampshire captain James Vince.

After Southern Brave added Russell and Warner to their ranks, Archer said: ‘They are two really good picks.

‘It’s going to be very good to play with Andre. I watched a lot of him growing up so I’m just happy I get to play with him.

‘Let’s hope I can learn some things off him and the rest of the players.’

Russell, meanwhile, said: ‘I was nervous, the first time being in the draft of this new competition.

‘The competition’s got a lot to offer. The game has been evolving for the last couple of years so with 100 balls, it’s definitely see ball, hit ball!

‘If we can get some more good players to top it off, we’ll have a balanced team and I think we can do it.’

Explaining his decision to sign Australia World Cup star Warner, Southern Brave coach Jayawardene said: ‘I was surprised he was still available on our second pick.

‘We had different plans but I thought he’s played a lot of franchise cricket and has so much experience. Like Warner, Russell is also a match-winner. That’s what you need.’

England internationals Liam Dawson, Tymal Mills, Craig Overton and Ollie Pope were also picked up by Southern Brave.
