THE Handmaid’s Tale fans think Fred and Serena Waterford will be assassinated in Canada by undercover Gilead agents.
Commander Waterford (Joseph Fienne) and his wife (Yvonne Strahovski) have betrayed Gilead by giving away state secrets after being captured.

They have been detained in Canada, and have been trading information about Gilead in exchange for keeping them from being executed.
Their actions have likely bumped them to the top of Gilead’s most wanted list and fans believe by betraying the oppressive government, they’ve signed their death warrants.
The theory that the Waterfords will die appears to be supported in Margaret Attwood’s original book.
In the epilogue, it says the Commander was killed in a purge shortly after Offred was taken away, charged with harbouring an enemy agent.

Reddit user CapriciousSalmon explained the idea in lengthy post on Reddiit.
They explained: “Because THT is based off of events that have happened, I do believe that Serena and Fred will be assassinated by Gilead agents because of how much data they can give the UN.
“There’s also the fact that the book mentions that Fred was executed in a purge for harbouring a rebel.

“He could be purged in jail or sent back to Gilead and then executed when he returns.”
Fred and June’s (Elisabeth Moss) ever-shifting dynamic has long fascinated fans but it’s unlikely they’ll meet again.
The Handmaid’s Tale protagonist was shot and left for dead in the season three finale after she successfully saved a number of children by sending them to Canada.
