The Great British Bake Off is back for another Christmas special, thank goodness.

Judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, and hosts Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig, welcome four bakers into the tent to have another go at Bake Off glory.

Briony Williams was a fan favourite that her exit in the semi-finals last year caused a lot of upset, even for Sandi.

Thankfully it was second time lucky for her, as she was crowned this year’s Christmas Star Baker.

In a sweet tribute to her, Sandi called Briony a ‘force of nature’ in the tent, before revealing that she wasn’t through to the final round.

Keeping a positive outlook, Briony said at the time: ‘Sad to not be going through to the final, but so happy about how far I’ve come. What an experience.

‘I still love baking – I love baking more than ever,’ she added. ‘I don’t often say that I’m proud of myself. But I am, I’m proud of myself.’

So thankfully she has returned for another go against some former fellow bakers – Chuen-Yan Tsou from 2017, Terry Hartill from 2018 and Tom Hetherington from 2017.

Briony was a bit of a whizz at pastry during her first time round on the series, so hopefully she recreate some of that magic again.

Just because it’s Christmas doesn’t mean that the judges are going to go easy on this foursome as the festive challenges will definitely put their skills to the test.

There’s also a surprise appearance from rock group Status Quo, who will add a bit of glitz to proceedings by performing their classic Rockin’ All Over The World. We like it.

It will be the first of two festive Bake Off special that will air, with the second being a New Year’s Day episode featuring the cast of Derry Girls.

Stars Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Nicola Coughlan, Jamie-Lee O’Donnell, Dylan Llewellyn and Siobhan McSweeney are going to try their hand at baking, and see which one of them gets the coveted title of star baker.

The Great British Bake Off Christmas special is available to watch on All 4.
