The Amazon Prime series is set to embark on international specials instead of the traditional studio format and the team has been scouring the world looking for the perfect road trips.
Despite doing numerous long road trips and specials, the show has always been based at a studio with a live audience, until now.
Now, star of The Grand Tour has revealed in his column for the Sunday Times they were planning to do a Lawrence of Arabia-style journey from Saudi Arabia to Cairo.
This will not include the journey from Saudi Arabia to Egypt, however, because of “sporadic and vicious terrorist attacks” in the area.
He explained why they had to abandon the trip, commenting: “This would be an epic journey, except it would mean crossing the Sinai peninsula and, thanks to Isis, the chances of us all arriving on the other side with heads were slim.”
The search for exciting and exotic locations has seen many other different options turned down, including the Andaman Islands, which is a group of islands off the coast of Thailand, and Australia.
Jeremy said about the Andaman Island: “There’s a tribe on one of these islands that will kill anyone who lands.”
He also claimed Australia was turned down because it would not interest fans enough and the media scrutiny around the show in Australia would ruin it.
If they cannot narrow down certain locations and keep being restricted from entering certain areas then the famous presenters may have to do the series based in the UK.
Jeremy joked in the headline of his column: “We love reaching the places other car shows can’t. But thanks to Isis, we’re stuck with Slough.”
There is no suggestion of when the new season will be released yet, and the wait might be a long one for fans if they continue to struggle to find locations.
Filming might also be postponed as the stars embark on individual projects.
James recently split up the trio to go on his international adventure in Japan.
He has been filming for his new solo series Our Man In Japan, in which he travels the country exploring its culture and traditions.
Co-star Richard is also heading out on his own project called Big for Discovery in which he will travel the world searching for extraordinary examples of engineering.
Meanwhile, Jeremy previously revealed in the season three finale the show was moving away from the studio and audience aspect.
He struggled to hold back his emotions when discussing the move, saying: “The show as you know it is ending.”
He added: “Tell you what though, haven’t we had some laughs?
“In all of the years we’ve worked together, every single time one of us fell over, there was never any sympathy. We just burst into laughter straight away.”
Fans will have to wait to find out where the trio end up and whether they could finally find places safe enough for them to travel through.
The Grand Tour season four is set to air on Amazon Prime.
