The Flash season 5 spoilers: Barry Allen set to take on Reverse Flash in finale battle

The Flash (played by Grant Gustin) has had a tough season on the show so far this year.

After finding out his daughter Nora West-Allen (Jessica Parker Kennedy) was lying to him for months, Barry Allen eventually jetted her back to her own time.

As it turns out, Nora was secretly working alongside Reverse Flash (Tom Cavanagh) to “fix” Barry’s timeline.

Despite this, Barry would simply not hear any more from her – but it looks like he may see her again in coming episodes.

The last we saw of Nora was that she had been subjected to the negative Speedforce, leaving her looking a little worse for wear.

However it is not Nora who Barry will be facing off against in the final episode of the season, as revealed by the episode’s synopsis.

The synopsis reads: “Barry faces off with his oldest, and most formidable nemesis, Reverse Flash. Gregory Smith directed the episode with story by Lauren Certo and teleplay by Todd Helbing & Eric Wallace.”

Currently in the story Reverse Flash is nowhere to be seen, and certainly doesn’t have any means of getting to Barry to fight him.

But could Nora find a way to release the villain and prompt him to begin tracking down Flash once again to end his life?

And if so, why would Nora go to such drastic lengths to get revenge on her father?

With just a few weeks left of season five, fans won’t have to wait too long to find out.

However this does pose many questions for the upcoming sixth season of The Flash.

While Reverse Flash was a main antagonist during the earlier seasons of the show, his escape in the finale may prompt his return as the show’s big main bad guy.

Another prevailing theory is that Nora will take over as the brand new villain in the upcoming sixth season.

In a previous episode – titled Godspeed – fans saw the origin story of Nora which included a number of scenes that mimicked that of Barry’s.

These similarities ranged from the location in which Nora tested her powers, to the structure of the episode.

However fans of the show have begun pointing out this could be a huge red flag for Nora’s continuing story.

While Barry had Joe West (Jesse L. Martin) to lean on growing up, Nora felt alone and destitute – therefore giving her a meaner edge.

Could this have been all it took to create the next Flash super villain?

The Flash season five continues Wednesday on The CW.
