The first full length Annabelle Comes Home trailer promises a host of new evil spirits

The first full trailer for Annabelle Comes Home has arrived and it’s suitably jumpy. The next instalment in James Wan’s Conjuring Universe is set just after the opening scenes of the first Conjuring movie but before the rest of the events of that film featuring the haunting of the Perron family.

It’s a pretty smart way to eke a third part out of this spin-off prequel franchise which began with the unspeakably awful Annabelle and back-tracked for the really rather good pre-prequel Annabelle: Creation (made by David F Sandberg – director of DC’s wonderful Shazam – read our review).

Starting off in Ed and Lorraine Warren’s artefact room (which existed in real life), the Annabelle doll is safely locked in a box having terrorised several families already.

But a wayward teenager (Katie Sarife) inadvertantly lets her out when she messes about in the room, unleashing an evil which seems to act like a beacon to attract other malevolent spirits.

“Annabelle basically activates all the other haunted artifacts in that room, so it’s basically Night At The Museum with Annabelle,” says producer James Wan.

Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga will be back as Ed and Lorraine, with Haunting Of Hill House star Mckenna Grace playing their daughter Judy. This’ll be the directorial debut of Gary Dauberman, who wrote the screenplay for It: Chapters 1 and 2 and Annabelle: Creation, but also Annabelle and The Nun.

The artefact room is packed with creepy items (it was home to the terrifying painting of Valak who was the big bad in The Nun for example) so there’s every chance this will be a breeding ground for further spin-offs until the Conjuring Universe becomes bigger than the MCU and more profitable and influential than Harry Potter…

Annabelle Comes Home opens in UK cinemas on 28 June.
