The End on Sky: What is palliative care? Cast and experts reveal all

The End on Sky explores who has the right to die in Australia and focuses on three generations of a family. Widow Edie (played by Dame Harriet Walter) wants to end her life. Her daughter Kate Brennan (Frances O’Connor) is a palliative care doctor who is against euthanasia.

In The End English-Australian actress Frances O’Connor plays doctor Kate Brennan, who works in palliative care.

She helps look after people who are facing terminal illness or who are coming to the end of their life.

Following the release of the series Claudia Carvell has spoken exclusively to Express.co.uk about palliative care.

She is the manager of Bupa’s Lindsay care home in Bournemouth and has recently completed a masters in palliative care.

Claudia believes there is more space for the media to cover palliative care in a sensitive way.

She said: “Working in palliative care can be difficult at times for obvious reasons, but it’s also a hugely

rewarding role.

“You get to support people in their final days, and ensure that they’re comfortable, cared for and loved when they need it most.

“I think there’s a place for programmes which explore the issue sensitively and depict it in a fact-

based way, as it helps people understand the role of palliative care and the support that’s available.

“Likewise, it takes a special kind of person to work in end-of-life care, so if these programmes help

them to consider the roles, so much the better.”
